“Aditi is the Law School’s youngest tenured faculty member and has rapidly established herself as a leading academic in the field of contract law,” said Fordham Law Dean Michael M. Martin. “We applaud this well-deserved recognition and look forward to more groundbreaking scholarship as she continues her rise in legal academia.”

Bagchi teaches contracts and labor law, and in her scholarship, she has offered ways to reconcile interests in efficiency and equity within existing common law traditions. Her background in moral and political philosophy, political economy, and social history has informed her innovative views on contract law. For example, in recent work she advocates for the interpretation of some employment agreements as multilateral understandings between employers and employees that can evolve with the employer’s practices over time. Through such scholarship she is establishing herself as a leading scholar in contract theory.

She obtained her J.D. from Yale Law School, an M.Sc. in economic and social history from Oxford University, and an A.B. in government and philosophy from Harvard. She previously taught at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Before teaching, Bagchi was a litigation associate at Cravath, Swaine, & Moore LLP and a clerk for Judge Julio Fuentes on the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.

Her work has appeared in the Columbia Law Review, Stanford Law Review, Yale Law Journal, and other leading law journals. She has presented at workshops and conferences at Harvard, Yale, the University of Pennsylvania, and UCLA. Her work has been included in an anthology of top scholarship in the field of contract law, and she is currently writing a chapter for a new book that will compile the ideas of leading contract law theorists.

Three Fordham Law alumni will be recognized alongside Professor Bagchi as NYLJ Rising Stars this year: Todd G. Cosenza ’98, a Partner at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP; Christian C. Nugent ’99, a Partner at Goodwin Procter LLP; and Jack E. Pace III ’98, a Partner at White & Case LLP.

All Rising Stars will be recognized in a special edition of the New York Law Journal, to be published on June 5. A dinner honoring their accomplishments will be held on June 11 at the Kimberly Hotel.
