Why is there so much confusion? What is the history of this process? What does it look like today? And does it have a future? \nSynodality may seem like a buzzword to many\, but it appears to be here to stay: Pope Francis just announced that instead of a single “Synod on Synodality” in October 2023\, he would extend the global consultation by a year\, culminating in a second meeting at the Vatican in October 2024. \nThis panel features three distinguished theologians whose research and experience range from the halls of the Holy See to the pews of United States parishes. \nPanelists \nRafael Luciani is a Venezuelan theologian and advisor to the Vatican’s Secretariat for the Synod of Bishops. He is currently serving as an associate professor of theology at Boston College. His most recent book is Synodality: A New Way of Proceeding in the Church. \nSusan Bigelow Reynolds is an assistant professor of Catholic studies at the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. Her research examines “the intersection of ecclesiology and lived Catholicism.” She has a new book from Fordham University Press titled People Get Ready: Ritual\, Solidarity\, and Lived Ecclesiology in Catholic Roxbury. \nBrian Flanagan is an associate professor of theology at Marymount University who specializes in ecclesiology and church history. His most recent book is Stumbling in Holiness: Sin and Sanctity in the Church. He is currently writing a book on Pope Francis’s efforts to integrate practices of participation and transparency in the Catholic Church. \nDavid Gibson\, director of Fordham’s Center on Religion and Culture\, will moderate the discussion\, including questions from the audience. Their book\, The Long Loneliness in Baltimore\, offers a view of the city few people have seen\, including many who have lived there. In addition to providing a historical overview\, the book presents poignant vignettes\, moments of revelation that illuminate the life of the neighborhood and the plight of the poor—not just the poor of Baltimore\, but those across our country who struggle to survive in the merciless environment of the modern American city. Brendan’s unflinching narrative and Willa’s delicately rendered illustrations of daily life give a face and a name to the anonymous poor and depict the challenges they face. It is an eye-opening\, much-needed\, and quite frankly\, hysterically funny look at what it’s like to straddle two cultures—and do so quite successfully. The book provides a different perspective of the female Muslim experience—normal\, humorous\, and positive. \nAbout the Presenter: Zarqa Nawaz created the world’s first sitcom about a Muslim community living in the west. Little Mosque on the Prairie premiered to record ratings on the CBC in 2007. The show demystified Islam for millions of people around the world by explaining how practicing Muslims live their lives from dating to marriage to burying their dead. Now\, Zarqa Nawaz has written her best selling comedic memoir\, Laughing All the Way to the Mosque. Zarqa is also a frequent public speaker on Islam and comedy\, gender and faith\, and diversity in the media. \nFor questions or to RSVP contact cacs@fordham.edu URL:https://now.fordham.edu/event/laughing-all-the-way-to-the-mosque-finding-holiness-in-humor/ LOCATION:Tognino Hall\, Duane Library\, 441 East Fordham Road\, Bronx\, NY\, 10458\, United States ORGANIZER;CN="The Curran Center for American Catholic Studies":MAILTO:cacs@fordham.edu GEO:40.8612275;-73.8892354 X-APPLE-STRUCTURED-LOCATION;VALUE=URI;X-ADDRESS=Tognino Hall Duane Library 441 East Fordham Road Bronx NY 10458 United States;X-APPLE-RADIUS=500;X-TITLE=441 East Fordham Road:geo:-73.8892354,40.8612275 END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/New_York:20160506T090000 DTEND;TZID=America/New_York:20160506T150000 DTSTAMP:20250426T232752 CREATED:20160505T183105Z LAST-MODIFIED:20160505T183105Z UID:10005629-1462525200-1462546800@now.fordham.edu SUMMARY:Conference: Spiritual Geographies of Domestic Violence DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Sally N.
