SUMMARY:Parenting\, Disabilities\, and the Law: Child Welfare Challenges and Strategies
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a panel discussion on parenting\, disabilities\, and the law. \nAnne Murphy\, Ph.D.\, is a clinical psychologist and an associate professor of pediatrics. She directs the Infant-Court Project at Einstein-Montefiore and is a national expert on adverse childhood experiences care and research. Murphy will present on the application of a trauma-informed approach by the court and child welfare systems. \nMary Anne Mendenhall\, J.D.\, is a supervising attorney at the Family Defense Practice at Bronx Defenders. Mendenhall will present on practical considerations for representing parents with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD) in child welfare proceedings. \nAmy Mulzer\, J.D.\, is a staff attorney and instructor of clinical law at the Disability and Civil Rights Clinic at Brooklyn Law School. Mulzer will discuss litigation/legal approaches to representation of parents with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD) in child welfare proceedings under the ADA\, the Family Court Act\, and the New York Social Services Law. \nThis event is supported by the U.S. Administration on Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities: (90DDUC0035-01-00). It is presented by Fordham University School of Law and the Einstein-Montefiore University Center of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). Light refreshments will be served.

DESCRIPTION:For the first time since 2007\, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit will be sitting in session in New York City. On October 5\, a three-judge panel from the court will be holding hearings at Fordham University School of Law. The event will include welcoming remarks from Dean Matthew Diller. The hearings will be followed by a discussion and Q&A with the judges moderated by Prof. Hugh C. Hansen. \nSeats for the hearing are limited and will be available on first-come\, first-served basis.  No bags will be allowed in the court room.
